Five IUP Athletes Place in Top 10 at Demon Deacon Open



Stacie Stockard was the top finisher for IUP at Wake Forest, taking second in the steeplechase

Stacie Stockard finished second in the 3000 meter steeplechase to top the performance of the IUP track and field team at the Demon Deacon Open hosted by Wake Forest.

Stockard had a time of 11:35.79 to finish 17 seconds out of first place. Matt Gaudet also placed high in the 3000 meter steeplechase in the men's race, taking eighth with a time of 9:36.94.

Gretchen Colwell was in the top 15 in a pair of events. She was 13th in the hammer throw with a distance of 138 feet, 11 inches and then finished 15th in the shot put with a long throw of 40-4. Casey Waha was eighth in the javelin at 116-5.

Troy Litten had the top finish for the IUP men, tying for fourth in the pole vault while clearing the bar at 15-7. Nate Shelly was 13th in the 10,000 meters with a time of 32:26.45.

The Crimson Hawk men had four javelin throwers in the top 20, led by Rob Conrad in eighth place with a best throw of 207-3. Chris Paronish was 14th (183-4), Ken Bittner was 16th (178-11) and Russ Langley was 20th (171-10).

Both IUP teams return to action next Saturday at the Western Pennsylvania Championships hosted by Carnegie Mellon.
