IUP Swim Teams Bounce Back From Loss To Clarion Friday With Wins Saturday In Meet With Gannon And PSU Altoona

The IUP swim teams lost to Clarion Friday, but the women's team defeated Gannon 56- 39 and Penn State Altoona 73-14 Saturday, and the men lost to Gannon 66-29 but defeated Penn State Altoona 74-20.

The women ended their season with a 12-2 record, and the men finished 5-7.

The women lost to Clarion 141-94 as Heidi Mitskavich won the 500 freestyle (5:24.56) and Kate Rowe won the 100 breaststroke (1:10.18).

On Saturday, Jen Price took the 1000 freestyle (10:53.53) and the 500 freestyle (5:17.67), Brittany Watkins won the 200 freestyle (1:59.95) and Galit Regev won the 50 freestyle (25.46).

Kate Rowe won the 200 IM (2:17.68). Casey Beck won the 200 backstroke (2:16.15) and Tara Pitts won the 200 breastroke (2:33.77).

The 200 medley relay team of Beck, Rowe, Watkins and Abbey Doran took first with a time of 1:54.59 and the 200 freestyle relay of Doran, Watkins, Regev and Melissa Kucharczuk won with a time of 1:42.39.

In Saturday's meet, Jeff Gavin won the 1000 freestyle (10:21.34)and 500 freestyle (4:56.52), and Pawel Glowiak won the 200 backstroke (1:59.91) and 200 butterfly (1:54.48) to lead the men.

Both teams have finished their regular season and will compete at the PSAC Conference Championships Feb. 21-24 at Cumberland Valley High School.
