IUP junior swimmer Pawel Glowiak has been selected a recipient of the PSAC Top 10 award for combined academic and athletic excellence. The winter Top 10 award is presented to five men and five women in the sports of basketball, swimming, indoor track and field and wrestling. Recipients must be at least a sophomore with a .325 cumulative grade point average and solid athletic credentials. The Top 10 winners in the fall, winter and spring are all eligible for the Pete Nevins PSAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award which will be presented in June. Glowiak, from Gorzow, Poland, has a 3.64 grade point average as a finance major while earning All-America accolades in the pool all three seasons. This season he finished sixth in the 100 butterfly at the NCAA Division II meet, breaking his own school record with a time of 49.77. He was also an honorable mention All-America in the 200 backstroke, placing 15th in 1:53.36. Glowiak won PSAC titles in the 100 and 200 backstrokes and was second in the 200 individual medley. Glowiak was fifth in the 100 backstroke as a freshman in 2006 and eighth in the same event a year ago to garner All-America honors for the first two times in his career. He won the 100 backstroke at the 2007 PSAC meet to give him three conference titles, and he has placed in the top three in a total of nine events over the past three seasons. Glowiak is the IUP record holder in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly and is a member of record setting teams in the 200 and 400 medley relays. |
