Former IUP assistant coach Tom Rogish has been named the 12th head coach in the 47-year history of the Frostburg State (Md.) football program.

Rogish was on the coaching staff at IUP for 20 years under Frank Cignetti, serving as defensive coordinator from 1986-93 and associate head coach from 1994-2005. He spent the 2006 and 2007 seasons at Shepherd.

"I'm honored to have the privilege to be the next head football at Frostburg State University," said Rogish. "I'm excited to be here at FSU getting ready for the upcoming season."

During his time at IUP, the team made the playoffs 13 times and were national runners-up in 1990 and 1993. IUP posted 182 total wins, had nine seasons with 10 or more victories, was ranked in the Top 10 in 17 of the 20 seasons and posted a school record 13 wins in the 1993 campaign.

Under Rogish's tutelage, 113 IUP players were named All-PSAC West defensive selections. He coached nine Associated Press All-Americans on the defensive side of the ball and two PSAC West Players of the Year.

During his two years at Shepherd, Rogish helped the Rams make back-to-back trips to the NCAA playoffs, including a run to the Northeast Region championship last fall.

"Frostburg State University has always had a good academic and athletic reputation," added Rogish. "This is also a very exciting time to be at this great institution because of all the changes that are taking place. The university is moving in the right direction and I'm thrilled to be a part of it."
