April 1, 2008 IUP sophomore Gavin Smith won his third individual title of the 2007-08 season by capturing medalist honors at the Goldey-Beacom Invitational. Smith had a two-day score of three-over par 147 on the par 72 Hartefeld Golf Club course in Avondale, Pa. His total included a 70 for Tuesday's second round. In the fall, Smith was the medalist at both the Burger King/Ohio Valley Invitational and the PSAC tournament when the Crimson Hawks captured the conference title. Smith helped lead IUP to a second place finish in a field of 16 teams at the Goldey-Beacom Invitational, trailing only PSAC rival Millersville. The Crimson Hawks had a team score of 607, nine behind the Marauders. Nic Milito was second among IUP participants, tying for 14th with a score of 152. Cory Stelick was tied for 18th (154), Leo Acklin tied for 28th (156) and Ryan Kennedy tied for 31st (157). IUP competes next on April 14-15 when it hosts the IUP-Cecil Spadafora Invitational at the Indiana Country Club. |
