IUP scored eight straight goals to break open what was just a 5-4 lead en route to a 14-7 victory over Slippery Rock as the host Crimson Hawks snapped a five-game losing streak.

Alex Slinkard led IUP (2-5, 1-4 PSAC) with four goals to give her a team-leading 13 on the season. Kellie Caldwell added three tallies in the second half, including the first two of the period that built the Crimson Hawk lead to 9-4.

Amanda Fetter, Lauren Montague and Alex Nocella each scored two goals while Lauren Abbott rounded out the scoring with one. Slinkard and Fetter also had a pair of assists, and Caldwell, Montague and Kelly Kling each had one.

Caitlin O'Brien led Slippery Rock (0-9, 0-8) with four goals and Jayme Timmons had two. Sara Williams made 15 saves for The Rock.

Liana Wall started in goal for the shorthanded Crimson Hawks and played well in her first appearance at that position. Wall made seven saves to thwart any hope of a Slippery Rock comeback.

IUP led only 5-4 before Slinkard scored the final two goals of the first half to make it 7-4 at intermission. After Caldwell made it a five-goal margin at the outset of the second half, the Crimson Hawks went on to add four more tallies to up their advantage to 13-4.

In addition to her three goals, Caldwell starred defensively with nine ground balls to match the total of Sarah DeMaio. IUP was the more aggressive team throughout, scooping up 43 ground balls and controlling 10 draws to only 19 ground balls and five draw controls for The Rock.

IUP faces a tough road challenge on Saturday taking on third-ranked West Chester.
