April 21, 2008 Amanda Fetter scored four goals including a pair in a 7-0 run to start the game as IUP defeated Slippery Rock 15-3 in a PSAC contest Monday at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium. The win improved the Crimson Hawks to 3-12 overall and 2-10 in the PSAC. Slippery Rock remained winless in 12 conference games and 14 overall. Alex Slinkard, Sarah DeMaio, Alex Nocella and Alyssa Huber each scored two goals for IUP while Lauren Abbott, Kellie Caldwell and Kelly Kling found the net once. Slinkard, DeMaio and Abbott each contributed two assists. IUP held a 42-18 advantage in shots and Katie Lee made 14 saves for the Crimson Hawks. The combination of Sara Williams and Ashley Winkelspecht stopped 16 shots for The Rock. Caitlin O'Brien scored two of Slippery Rock's three goals. DeMaio broke a scoreless game seven minutes into the contest to give IUP a lead it would never relinquish. Fetter scored twice in a span of 1:10 and Huber tallied twice in only 1:24 to help the Crimson Hawks build their 7-0 lead. Slippery Rock scored the final two goals of the first half and then cut its deficit to 7-3 when O'Brien scored 2:49 into the second half. But IUP held The Rock scoreless the rest of the way while gradually expanding its advantage. The Crimson Hawks return home Thursday for their home finale against West Chester beginning at 4 p.m. |
