Howard Magee was appointed as an assistant women's soccer coach at IUP in July 2007 after serving as a volunteer coach for the previous three seasons.

Magee has been involved in soccer in western Pennsylvania for over 20 years at the recreation, travel, premier and college levels.

He was one of the founding directors and coaches for the Kiski Area Soccer League and coached the Kiski Area High School girls for the first two years of the program and then assisted with the boy's program for one year.

Magee was the director of coaching for 12 years for the Pittsburgh Strikers Premier girls program and coached both boys and girls during that time. The 1992 U-17 girls and 1993 U-18 girls were Pennsylvania West state champs. While with the Pittsburgh Strikers, Magee served on the Pennsylvania West board as a Premier and Classic league director.

With Magee on the coaching staff at IUP, the Crimson Hawks have turned in three of the top seasons in school history. The 2004 team won the PSAC tournament title, reached the NCAA tournament for the first time and had a final national ranking of No. 24.

The following year, IUP won the first of its two straight PSAC West titles. In 2006, the Crimson Hawks reached the finals of the PSAC tournament and won an NCAA tournament game for the first time in school history to advance to the round of 16. IUP was ranked 15th in the final national poll.

Magee attended St. Vincent College and played midfield for the Bearcats for two seasons. He retired in 2004 from Allegheny Technologies, where he was an ironworker for 32 years.

Magee and his wife, Debbie, are the parents of sons Mark and James and resides in Vandergrift.
