Sarah Romasco, Ray Schreiner Lead IUP Past Lock Haven and Into PSAC Playoffs

Oct. 20, 2007

Sarah Romasco scored two goals and Ray Schreiner had a goal and an assist to lead IUP to a 5-0 victory over Lock Haven, clinching a berth in the PSAC playoffs for the Crimson Hawks.

IUP is currently in third place in the PSAC West standings with 15 points on the strength of its 5-3 record (11-5 overall). Slippery Rock has clinched the division title and Edinboro is currently second with 20 points.

IUP can still finish ahead of Edinboro and in second place with wins over Clarion and California in its final two PSAC West games next week. Should the Crimson Hawks achieve that goal, they will host the Fighting Scots in the opening round of the conference playoffs. Otherwise, IUP will travel to Edinboro.

Slippery Rock has a first round bye and will host the winner of the IUP-Edinboro game in the PSAC semifinals.

Romasco and Schreiner both scored first half goals to stake IUP to a 2-0 lead at halftime. Romasco then added her second goal of the game and team-leading 17th of the season with 12 minutes gone in the second half to make it 3-0. Schreiner assisted on the tally.

Ashley Moyer and Amie Dean contributed goals later in the half to account for the final margin, with Carina Honeygosky and Brittany Pikur posting assists.

IUP held a 23-12 advantage in shots. Kelsey Dowling played the first 84 minutes in goal for the Crimson Hawks and made nine saves while Sarah Yingling had one save in six minutes of action. Emily Wagner had six saves for Lock Haven.

IUP wraps up its homestand on Monday against Mercyhurst at 4 p.m. before playing its important PSAC West games at Clarion on Wednesday and at California on Saturday.
