IUP redshirt freshman Erin Holloway has been named the PSAC West Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season after a week highlighted by defeating the No. 2 team in the nation. Holloway (Harleysville/Souderton) pitched a 10-inning complete game in a 2-1 win over Lock Haven and All-America pitcher Kristin Erb. Holloway struck out 13 and allowed seven hits in handing the Bald Eagles only their fourth PSAC West loss in 70 games dating back to the 2005 season. For the week, Holloway appeared in five games with four starts and picked up four wins and worked to an ERA of 0.66. In 32 innings she surrendered only 16 hits and three runs while striking out 52. Against Clarion on Saturday, she pitched her second career no-hitter while striking out 14 in a 10-0 victory. Holloway also had a no-hitter against Erskine last season before suffering a season-ending elbow injury. She came back in the nightcap against Clarion to pitch the final two innings of an 8-5 win, striking out four without giving up a run. Holloway also had a total of 21 strikeouts in splitting a pair of decisions against Edinboro. She pitched a four-hitter with nine whiffs in a 2-0 win on Wednesday and struck out 12 while again allowing only four hits in a 2-1 loss on Friday. Holloway raised her season strikeout total to 178 to break the IUP single season record of 173 set by Julie Giacomin in 2000. Holloway has reached double figures in strikeouts in six of her past seven starts, fanning 95 over that span. For the season, Holloway has an ERA of 2.04 and four shutouts among her eight wins. She ranks third in the PSAC in total strikeouts and seventh in the nation in strikeouts per seven innings with an average of 10.38. Holloway is also third in the conference in opponent batting average at .160 and seventh in innings pitched with 120. IUP is 15-21 overall and 11-5 in the PSAC West with regular season doubleheaders remaining at California on Friday and Lock Haven on Saturday. The Crimson Hawks are in second place in the division and can likely wrap up a spot in the conference playoffs this weekend. |
