IUP redshirt freshman pitcher Erin Holloway was named the PSAC West Rookie of the Year and was joined by outfielder Kristen Tunno on the all-conference first team while catcher Sam Goettman was chosen to the second team by the league's head coaches. Holloway (Harleysville/Souderton) is the first IUP players selected the top rookie in the PSAC West since Becky Lewis in 2004. This season Holloway won 10 games and had an ERA of 2.32. In 27 appearances she had 16 complete games, including five shutouts, and struck out 208 batters in 154 innings. Her strikeout total established an IUP single season record and ranked her third in the PSAC. Her 9.5 strikeouts per seven innings ranks 11th in the nation and she is also seventh in the country in hits allowed per seven innings at 4.05. Opponents batted just .164 against Holloway, the second best mark in the conference. Holloway tied the PSAC record with 18 strikeouts in a one-hitter against Clarion, the second most ever by a Division II pitcher in a seven-inning game. In a later contest against the Golden Eagles, she pitched her second career no-hitter. Holloway was also the only pitcher to beat Lock Haven in PSAC West play, outdueling All-American Kristin Erb in a 10-inning, 2-1 win on April 15. She struck out 13 and walked only one against the then No. 2-ranked Bald Eagles. Tunno (Seaford, Va./Grafton) was the only IUP regular to bat over .300 this season, finishing with an average of .341 that ranked in a tie for 20th in the PSAC. The freshman also led the Crimson Hawks with 44 hits and 51 total bases while making only one error in the outfield. Tunno added three doubles, two triples, 10 runs scored and six RBIs to her season totals. Tunno had 14 multiple hit games this season to lead the team in that category, including three hit games against California and Slippery Rock. She also had a team-high 10-game hitting streak just prior to the start of PSAC West play. Goettman (Mars/North Allegheny) batted .244 during her sophomore season while leading IUP with nine doubles and 23 RBIs and tying for the team lead with two home runs. She also paced the team with 15 walks and was third with 30 hits and 11 runs scored. Goettman was one of the top defensive catchers in the PSAC. Goettman had both of her home runs and drove in five runs in a PSAC West win over Slippery Rock and knocked in three runs in victories over Millersville and Clarion. Her five games with multiple RBIs were the most on the team. |
